Interesting
Istria is the largest Croatian and Adriatic peninsula, a place
whose heavenly guardian angels emerge from her every pore, bare
rock, prosciutto and grape vines.
Geographically, the western Istria it meandering and slightly
shallower, while the eastern steep and less populated. Istrians or
dialect called Istrijani never stopped investing in their region,
primarily the caring hands of the peasants, and then an immense
love of every individual who has stepped in Istria and thereby fell
in love with all its blessings.
Except Croatian language, inhabitants of Istria speak many
dialects of which the most prominent is "čakavski", together with
some more complex dialects like žminjski, labinski or buzetski but
distributed to smaller local areas.
In addition, big part of citizens have dual citizenship and most
often, with Croatian one, they have Slovenian or Italian
citizenship.
According to the some belives and sources Istria was named to
the Histri, an Illyrian tribe that lived in this area. An
interesting fact is that the Romans considerd Illyrians
dangerous pirates who skillfully know how to use an indented
coastline for seamless navigation and conquest.
Istria has many specific features, and one
of them is definitely the color of earth on the
ground which we share on the
red, gray and white one. That is, the Red
Istria area is the west coast where the
predominant is red earth; red and brown
earth is very rich in humus soil. The
central part of the peninsula of Istria
is isolated as a Gray Istria because of
gray, clay soil. Last but not
least important part comprises Učka
slopes and the eastern part of the
peninsula, called the White Istria where the
predominant white country, and indeed much of
the stone limestone soil.
